The Huna Fellowship (the Second Life branch of the Aloha Fellowship) celebrated New Year's Eve at the George Naope Theater and the Uncle George Bar with synchronized dancing to Hawaiian music, pupus, and fireworks. Click on the image for a larger view.

On February 19th Aloha International's hula troupe, Halau Hula Na Lei Kupua, performed its annual Ho'ike Hula - a special presentation of dances learned during the previous year. The halau's kumu hula - instructor - Susan Pa'iniu Floyd, assisted by Fern Merle-Jones, led the performance, which consisted of - ancient-style dances, followed by auana - modern-style dances, all composed by master teacher Kawaikapu Hewett using the Pele/Hi'iaka legends as his theme. The dancers accompanied themselves with traditional instruments for the ancient-style dances, and the music for the modern dances was played by the halau's own band. As a special treat, Kawaikapu Hewett danced with a group of Russian and Polish students that he had just trained, and honored the presentation by dancing on his own.

From Alakai Candidate Blair Collins: I was heading home from work early, as the infamous Calgary weather was acting up: the rain had turned into large snowflakes and the wet roads were beginning to ice up. I left my workplace and had made it on to the major roadway that I use to take me home. Given the state of the roads, the traffic was bumper-to-bumper, and crawling slowly along as the heavy snow continued to fall. I had travelled along only a few kilometres, when suddenly the windshield wiper on the driver's side of my car snapped off and flew away! Needless to say I was very stressed because there was absolutely nowhere to pull over, and even if I could I wasn't sure what I was going to do. Immediately I began to envision the snow stopping, and repeating that I will be able to see to get myself home. The snow stopped almost immediately and no more snow fell between my location on the road until I arrived at home, while other parts of the city continued to be battered by snow late into the evening. Huna works!

From DJ, who requested help from our Healing Circle: I do apologize for taking so long to get back to you. I know the group loves to hear about its success stories in using Huna and I have one for you all. I had asked for the group to perform Huna for my dog Kai because he has bad knees. The winter this year for some reason is getting out of hand in that it's getting colder here lately. I live near Houston and this time of year the temperatures are always around 50 to 60 degrees and even that's too much for my Kai. The cold for his knees used to be painful and miserable for him. Since I wrote that letter asking for help he's done nothing but improve to the point where he has no pain even when he's outside in 30 degree weather. It's amazing. He's doing so much better and he is such a furball of love now. He doesn't have to stop giving love whole heartedly because he's in pain now, he can continue to show us as much love as we can handle and then some. He is so happy as am I for this. I thank you so much for your help and I ask you please to never stop doing wonderful things for this world. Every small thing counts for something big. Again thank you for this gift and I send you much love. Kai thanks you too.
